Trinitarian Songs

In recent conversations with our pastor, a point was raised about the songs we sing each week. What is out there, what are the songs about that we call “worship” I realized that there are not many worship songs that mention the Trinity, our worship should be Trinitarian, about the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

I found this song to help in the understanding….your thoughts….

The song is not a traditional Trinity song, with 3 verses about the Father, Son and Spirit, but if you look through the lyrics the Trinity is clearly there. The verses explore the different roles of the Son and the Spirit in leading us to the Father and the chorus is a simple refrain of praise to the Father, because he is worthy to be praised!
Father God we come

Song written by Andy Irons (Heb 2:12; Heb 4:16; Eph 3:12)

Father God, we come with confidence through faith.
Father God, we stand before your throne of grace.
We can only come, stand before your throne,
because Christ has made the way;
shed his precious blood as a sacrifice,
so we offer you our praise.

Hallelujah, hallelujah, hallelujah!
The way is open to the Father, hallelujah!

Father God, we come, invited to draw near.
Father God, we stand before you without fear.
We are welcomed in, to your presence, Lord,
as the Spirit leads the way.
We will join with Christ, we will join with heav’n,
as we offer you our praise.

Father God, we come, hallelujah.

Sounds like you've been reading James Torrance!

A lack of Trinitarian theology is one of the biggest holes in Christian worship today. This song is very good. Thanks for posting it.

In the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, Amen.

A few "modern" trinitarian worship songs include:

You Are So Good to Me - Waterdeep

You are God (subtly anyway - God, God, God) Scott Underwood

There is a Redeemer - Keith Green

OK...that's a short list...any more suggestions?

A song I really like is Trinity Vineyard's adaptation of St. Augustine's Prayer to the Holy Spirit. It is not trinitarian per se, but is directed to the Holy Spirit, whereas most songs are to, or about the Father, or Son...
